SC Educators Say to Scrap Merit Pay
Oconee educators told their legislative delegation Friday that merit pay for teachers is a bad idea whose time should never come. “I’ve never seen a merit pay system that worked well,” said Andy Inabinet. District Superintendent Mike Lucas said the introduction of competitive merit pay in the state might lead to situations such as recently in the Atlanta school system, where teachers and administrators were accused of altering students’ tests to reflect bogus achievement.
